Just another WordPress.com site

Thank you for all the 5MC students and family members that were so patients, as we were working on getting our class webpage back up and working this past week!

We are nearing the end of the school year and have two major fields trips coming up in the month of May. Make sure your student is turning in their homework and completing other daily 5th grade responsibilities so they can attend the rocket building and David Davis Mansion trips! Students need to have a guardian sign and return the rocket sheet by May 4th or they will be in jepordy of not attending.

Check out the homework page this week and take a look at your student’s Charlie Skeddadle and History Journals that they are working on at school and will have for homework!

Don’t forget it is Spirit Week at Irving. Below details what each day if designated for:

Wednesday-Wacky Day

Thursday-Sports Day

Friday-Blue and Gold Day

Reminder: Ask your student about building rockets this May in 5th grade. An informational sheet went home last week concerning the details including price. Students must provide $10.00 in order to construct a rocket and launch it during our trip to the park. Students are not required to pay to build a rocket and are still able to attend the field trip to enjoy the event.  Please don’t assume if your student buys a rocket they will automatically attend the trip. Talk with your student about Irving expectations like respect, responsibility, and safety.

This sheet needs to be signed and returned to school by May 4th.

What a great way to start off the 5th grade week at Irving! This morning Ms. Jacob’s commented on what excellent examples the 5th graders set, while waiting to come inside today. Way to go 5th grade!

This week 5MC will celebrate their MINUTE party on Friday and our March Reading Counts Goal winners have earned this monthly dessert! Awesome job to all the 5th graders that earned 15 or more points for the month of March!

With the weather being unpredictable this week, make sure your students brings a jacket/sweatshirt in case we have outside recess or they are cold in the classroom. Also, remind your student to bring that home nightly. If any clothing items, band instruments, or other objects are left they go directly to the lost and found.

Don’t forget: No school on Friday, April 6th!

For the month of April your student has selected their own reading goal. Many students chose to go above the regular 15 points. Ask your student what their goal is for April!

Make sure to take a look through Friday folders this long weekend and have it ready to return on Monday.

Students in 5MC are working on creating their first poem for National Poetry Month this afternoon! These poems will be worked on at school and copies will be sent home at the end of the month/unit for each student to keep in their poetry folder.

5th grade has been working on probability in math this past week by taking a look at spinners, dice, marbles, and even flipping coins! Conduct an experiment, predict the probability, track the results, and create a visual representation of your own!

April is National Poetry Month and we will be celebrating that in the 5th grade. For the next week we will focus on reading, analyzing, and creating our own poetry. Yesterday and today, students explored the question “What is poetry?” and read various poems and poetry books.

We also began brainstorming for our first free-verse poem. Ask your student about their topic tonight!

Remember no school on Friday, April 6th.

Welcome back 5th grade! I hope everyone enjoyed their week off and starts school rejuvenated for spring.

Don’t forget that report cards need to return to school in their envelope with the half sheet signed for 3rd quarter. They are due on Thursday, April 5th. If there are any questions or concerns, please contact us by phone at Irving or by email (mccreadye@district87.org)

Don’t forget to start the routine of checking your student’s agenda each night and going over their homework for the evening or week.

There is no school Friday, April 6th. Be on the look out for more important dates for 5th grade!

We ended our Tall Tale Unit this week with a BANG! Awesome job to all the 5th graders that presented their tall tale play today. We had a great audience including Principal Lammers. The tall tales presented were ones students had previously read in their reading anthology. Each class did a great job of pulling together parts and knowing their lines for such having such a short time to prepare.

Don’t forget tomorrow is a 12:05 dismissal.

Spring Break is almost almost here! Don’t forget that Friday, March 23rd is a half day for students and that Perfect Attendance Dance will happen that morning.

We are now in the 4th academic quarter of the school year. Report cards for the 3rd quarter will come home this Friday.

This week we will focus on Tall Tales and present a play to the rest of the 5th grade about Paul Bunyan. Ask your student how they are contributing to the performance.

Happy March 16th! Today 5th grade math classes learned how to create line plots for organizing data. Then we made our own with lucky charms cereal and discussed how to make generalizations! Each class made some excellent line plots, which will hang up or come home next week! Be on the look out for these!

Today the PTO fundraising forms were due if your student sold any flower bulbs. If your student did not bring it today, please send it on Monday.

As the weather turns nice, make sure to double check your student’s agenda every night! The end of the 3rd grading period is today, March 16th. 4th quarter starts Monday!

Don’t forget to stop by the PTO Chili Supper and the Book Fair this evening at Irving. Students took home wish lists this week of possible books they might enjoy reading. Ask to see your student’s list!

Today the 5th grade was treated to a movie to celebrate their hard work on the ISAT over the past week and half. All the make up testing is complete! Students that had 100% attendance during that time period will be able to attend the DANCE CELEBRATION for perfect attendance on March 23rd. What a great way to kick off spring break!
